About Jenn’s Watercolor Journey

In August 2022, right as my daughter was leaving for college and my husband received a health diagnosis, I felt a strong urge to buy some watercolors. Like, smack dab out of the blue! So much so when I said it out loud, my daughter looked at me and said, “Alright. Then go buy some watercolors!” I went straight to the art store, bought a cheap kid’s watercolor palette that came with a plastic brush and sat down at my kitchen table and moved paint around on a page.

That experience unlocked something within, a creative desire that needed to be expressed and I haven’t stopped since. And, yes, I still paint at my kitchen table. ☺️

I am a classically trained soprano soloist, and have been singing since before I could talk. But watercolor … that was a voice I didn’t know I had. Certainly one I didn’t know I needed to use.

The three little paintings I included here were from those first few days painting in August 2022. Zero training, zero technique, but it spoke to me.

Watercolor has taught me so much about being in the moment. Being in flow. Removing judgements and rules and structure and simply allowing the magic from within to unfold on a page. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

I’m grateful you’re here, and I want to celebrate the creative in each of us. This is a safe space to do that, and I hope you’ll share your journey, too.
